Red Dwarf: Back to Earth
Wow, was that ever awful. I kept waiting for the funny to start. It never did -- it just got painfully maudlin. Then it became a lame attempt at making some kind of "meta" commentary on Blade Runner by riffing on bits from the movie. Then the ending dragged on and on and on...
Red Dwarf was seldom more than a mildly amusing series of sci-fi parodies, but in the past 8 series, I could almost always count on something in every episode to make me laugh. Sadly, they forgot they were making a comedy this time out.
I mean, if you're gonna go NINE YEARS between series, the least you could do is try and make new episodes that seem like installments of the SAME SERIES. A total disappointment.
This should be the final nail in the Red Dwarf coffin, except they've already announced a new series for next year. Well, I won't make any effort to see it.
