Sint Maarten Day One
Day one of the 2 week vacation down. it was amazing.
Our airport shuttle picked up about 9:40 on Friday night. Delta to Atlanta took off about 1am. We got to Atlanta about 6am local time. Took off about 10:30am (30 minutes behind schedule) and arrived at Princess Juliana in Sint Maarten at 2:10pm. Got through customs about 3, got the rental car about 3:30, and arrived at the Sapphire Beach Club around 4 (this time of year, the clocks are the same as eastern Time here, because they don't do DST in the islands...)
Dropped the bags in the room and immediately drove around the west end of the island, through Marigot, to the Grand Marche in Phillipsburg to shop for our 2 weeks. Almost $400 later, we loaded up the car and drove back.
We had dinner at the restaurant at the resort. As often happens when I travel (especially to sea level) I found myself very "tight" at dinner, and had to leave to come back to the room after a few bites of my Onion Soup and Goat Cheese salad (the food was great, I was really disappointed I couldn't eat any more...)
There's been a lot of development around Cupecoy Beach since our last stay here, in 2006 -- but the beach is still clothing optional, and as gay as a Broadway musical. So, yay!
the three of us (me, Ron and John) went to Cupecoy Beach today. John had fun snorkeling, there was some delightful eye candy (handsome nekkid men all over the beach) and my every-other-day trips to Electric Beach since February gave me a good base, so a moderate coating of SPF 15 kept me from burning.
It was a good day!
