I booked a room at the Best Western Civic Center (The "Best Western Lone Star") for Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights. Saturday the city is apparently full, and I can't seem to find a reasonably-priced room anywhere north of the airport. So that will be a good night to go exploring!

I've wanted to see the Winchester Mystery House ever since I read Tim Powers's "Earthquake Weather." This looks like my perfect opportunity to drive down to San Jose, see the house and spend a night down that-a-way before returning to SF on Sunday for John's performance. Anyone want to go with?

So what are you doing for dinner Saturday night in San Jose? I'm already having a friend over from Sonora, so I can't offer a place to spend the night, but you (and whoever goes with you) would be welcome to join us for dinner.

That actually sounds like fun! I've lived here all my life and never been to the Winchester House. In spite of the cool commercials they used to show during the intermissions at the drive-in when I was a kid. (remember? "Keep buildiiiiiiiiiiiiing!")

I have plans for Saturday night but I would love to do lunch and the Winchester House on Saturday if you'd like. I used to work there as a tour guide and I can tell you some of the extra stuff that they don't usually tell you on tour.

I just talked to the Griffster and you are more than welcome to crash at our place for that night.

As long as you like doggies.

I will be attending on Sunday, and will at least see you then. I have been working with the company I am interviewing with, I have a room reserved through the weekend, though the weekend is "on me". Do you still need a place for Saturday? I understand the area is pretty booked up.

It is in Oakland, I believe (don't have the details but it has to be decent).
