Remodeling the Basement

So anyway, I've been a ghostly presence on LJ for the last several months. Several reasons for that: new job, a new cub added to our household, lots of travel, and the remodeling of our basement (after 11 months of talk) finally started last week. Attached are some pics of what it looks like today:

Around the "L"

The drywall had to come down off the ceiling to get rid of the sparkly cottage cheese applied in the '70's. We're putting up knotty pine tongue 'n' groove, which should give it a "cabin" effect. We're also building in bookcases along two walls (the long wall, and the far wall in the "reverse view). The entertainment center will be around the "L."

The lighting will be replaced with a dozen or so "can lights" in the ceiling. The carpet will be light sage. I think it will be really cool when it's all done; if only we could find an electrician to come and do the wiring, we could get started on the ceiling!

Home improvement, rawr! :) I hope you're using 4th S or Oly. Hills Ace, since they support KCPW - not aware of anyone that supports "our" community in that department right now (well, except Silver City Hardware, obviously).

Looks good! Can't wait to see the finished basement.

Still working on our basement. Will have to get some pics soon! I'm sure you're gonna hate it because we painted over our panelling *g*

Painting over the panelling was one option we considered to brighten up the room. But I figure that by the time we get bookcases built in down 2 walls, it will cover enough of the dark wood.

paint the wood all white , add lots of long thin upholstered panels on the walls - (in orange - like DUH!) white shag pile carpet and some 60s furniture (in orange - like DUH!) and its sorted.
