What Ever Happened to Baby Jane

We watched "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" from Netflix last night.

**SIGH!** It's better in memory than in the watching. So much of the acting is lousy (the teenage girl next door. Joan Crawford...) Bette Davis is awesome, however.

There are 2 or 3 quotable lines, which we all know already. The rest is eminently missable.

Did you ever see the remake ABC did with the Redgrave sisters? It's even worse...

I think I tried to watch it back in the day, but could only tolerate moments.

There was a TV remake in 1991 -- Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave played the Hudson sisters. Lynn was Jane, and Vanessa, Blanche, as I recall.

the girl next door has no excuse for being a bad actress, considering she is the daughter of Bette Davis and Gary Merrill

Thats right it was B D Hyman. years later she wrote that book and her and Bette never spoke again. The BD stands for "Bitch Daughter"

Ah yes, nepotism. The wellspring of so many unworthy Hollywood careers.

Oh, Todd. You wouldn't be so cruel if Joan weren't in a wheelchair...

There is an old book called "Bette & Joan: The Devine Feud" about their career long dislike of each other. The bitchfest really came to a head on the set of that movie. A fun read if you can find an old copy.

But she IS! She IS in that chair!

I had to quote that line, but I feel kind of dirty doing it...

But you have to love the look on Bette's face when she's kicking Joan. That ain't acting.
