Save It For Later
May. 5th, 2005 07:16 pmOK, This is like one of my all-time favorite songs, but I don't have a fucking clue what it's supposed to mean.
Somehow in my mind I've always associated Dave Wakeling's delivery of this lyric with my own "coming out" experience. I'm sure that's nothing to do with what he's singing about, but this is MY Coming Out song. The way the lyrics are transcribed for the final chorus lends some weight to my interpretation, however...
Two dozen other dirty lovers
Must be a sucker for it
Cry, cry, but I don't need my mother
Just hold my hand while I come
To a decision on it
Sooner or later
Your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later
Don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You hit the deck, you get found out
Save it for later
Don't run away and let me down
You let me down
Black air and seven seas all rotten through
But what can you do?
I don't know how I'm meant to act with all of you lot
Sometimes I don't try
I just now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now!
Two dozen other stupid reasons
Why we should suffer for this
Don't bother trying to explain then
Just hold my hand while I come
To a decision on it
Sooner or later
Your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it fellator
Don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You hit the deck, you get found out
Save it fellator
Don't run away and let me down
You let me down
You run away run away runaway runaway runaway and let me down

I got the lyrics online, but checked them against the printed lyrics in the CD of The Beat's "Special Beat Services" album, and was amazed at how they were written out. So I corrected them before posting them, This is how they appear in the album.
