STICKY -- #1, #2 & #3

daddytoddI'm on the Yahoo group promoting the gay erotic comic STICKY. I saw a couple frames of the artwork several months back and wanted to know more.
The third issue just came out, and I decided it was time to check out the book. I ordered copies of all three issues from Last Gasp and they arrived over the weekend.
In a recent posting to the STICKYNOTES Yahoo group, the series writer Dale Lazarov says "We're currently trying to reach bear-identified gay porn mags as, strangely, none of them have reviewed it." I'm not a porno magazine, but I thought I'd post my impressions, as a bear-identified gay man.
First of all, there are no continuing characters. Each issue is 20 - 24 pages of sex, with no dialog or captions to interrupt the flow of the action. I'll be the first to admit that lots of porn dialog is cheesy, but the comics seem stark and somehow unfinished without ANY words at all.
The artwork is nice, but the men depicted don't really communicate "bearishness" to me. They are uniformly narrow-waisted, with exaggerated pecs, bubble butts, and ludicrously huge dicks. Not quite as outrageous as Tom of Finland's men, but nowhere near a "bear" ideal. And what facial hair the men have is carefully trimmed and sculpted in a 'post-bear' sort of way that doesn't appeal much to my 'old-school bear' sensibilities.
If they want to appeal to a bear audience, I'd suggest a story where someone who looks like Furr is up in a sling getting pounded by someone who looks like Hawgs; or where someone who looks like Steve Ellis is rimming someone who looks like Buck Bauer. Hell, either of those scenarios would make a great video...
If you stumble across a copy of STICKY, give it a try. It might appeal to you more than it appeals to me.
