I've been saving this news since it was unloaded on us yesterday...

Since a major merger last year, the Technology Dept. I work for has been essentially run by remote control; all local management has left, and our managers are in Chicago.

Long story short: yesterday we were told that our entire department is being moved to Chicago in 18 months. We can apply for jobs and move to Chicago, or we can wave goodbye in February, 2007.

Any Chicagoans out there who can let me know whet the cost of living is in Chicago? I'm not opposed to uprooting myself (and Ron...) but I'd like to understand what kind of lifestyle I can expect.

DON'T DO IT! I've never really liked Chicago. I don't know why. The coldest I've ever been was in Chicago. Brrrr...

Somehow I can't imagine moving from the pristine beauty of specific parts of Utah. But Chicago sounds like an interesting place to live... just windy and cold.

Confucius say (okay not Confucius; Bob say): Don't make judgements based on climate or weather. You should be determining what warmth will come from the people who are there.

In other words, what are the people like? Are they friendly? What kind of community will you share with them?

Face it - Buffalo has a reputation for weather straight out of the Old Testament - and the reason I would never leave here is because my friends are the best people in the world.

mmm
