Ask a question, and the answer will present itself. It took a week, but maybe THIS is What's Next.

I'm thinking about inviting all the same-sex couples who were forcibly divorced last month to come to Salt Lake City on Valentine's Day, 2009. We'll stand in front of the Catholic cathedral before walking the few blocks to the Mormon temple. No big noise, no big speeches. Just 18,000 couples (and their kids, if they got 'em) showing the Mormons and Catholics who religious tyranny hurts.

What do you think?

(Thanks to Valerie Larrabee for coming up with the idea!)

Wow!

Great idea.

Too bad for Cathedral of the Madeline, since it is a beautiful place... but it does make a point about the Church.

It's not yet clear if those who married between June 15 and November 4 will have their marriages annulled or not.

And...and...and...Valentine's day is during IBR!

Yeah, I knew that. I wonder if moving it to the weekend before or after would really change the number of participants? I'm still thinking about it.

Yeah, and if there was one of those evangelical megachurches in the valley, we'd pop in on them, too.

Great idea! But why target Mormons in Utah? Wouldn't it be more effective to target ALL churches in California, rather than just Mormons or Catholics?

I agree, that's why we'll be visiting more than one religious shrine in Utah.

why Utah at all? There's a lot of anger focused at the LDS Church for it's role in H8. I'd like to channel that anger into some kind of effective, nonviolent, gently confrontational demonstration that might have the power to move some hearts.

That's it, really. I think this might move our cause in a positive direction.
