Look who I found: Providence

I bought their album when it was first released, in 1972. They were originally from Boise, where I grew up. When the record came out, one track, "Fantasy Fugue," was a minor hit on local radio in Boise (KFXD played it a lot...)

I think I was in 7th grade when it came out. Two members of the  band were the twin sons of my English teacher at the time. It was my first brush with "fame." I mean, WOW! they were on the RADIO and I sat in class with their MOM every DAY!!!!!

I wore out my initial copy and eventually gave it away during my first year of college (1979-ish.) By that point the jacket was held together with scotch tape...

A couple years later I discovered an imported copy at The Record Exchange in Boise, which I still have. It's never been officially released on CD, but I just ordered a CD copy off eBay anyhow.

They were one of the few bands* to be released on Threshold (the Moody Blues's custom label) besides the Moodies themselves, or one of their side projects.

You can hear most of the record on their Myspace page. It still holds up for me.

*Edited because [livejournal.com profile] progbear pointed out that I was WRONG. Sorry!

They were the first (and only --?) band to be released on Threshold (the Moody Blues's custom label) besides the Moodies themselves, or one of their side projects.

Threshold discography

The other non-Moodies-related artists to release albums on Threshold:

Trapeze (Hard rock group featuring a pre-Deep Purple Glenn Hughes)
Asgærd (Apparently another folk-progressive group in the Providence vein)
Nicky James (Blues-rock singer)

Also on Threshold: a couple of singles by Timon (folkie singer-songwriter Tymon Dogg) and one by Sue Vickers (any relation to Mike?)

Oh, and didn't Tymon Dogg do the vocals on a song on "Sandinista!"?
