Wondermints
Mar. 29th, 2009 12:50 pmOK, so I've heard about the Wondermints for years -- I even saw them live, when they were part of the enormous stageful of musicians backing up Brian Wilson on the SMiLE tour in 2004. But I've never heard any of their music.
So, I ordered all 4 of their CDs off eBay the other day. And now I have a new obsession.
The first CD to arrive was "Mind if We Make Love to You," their most recent, from 2002. Really, really good. Very Brian Wilson-y. This one will go into regular rotation.
The CD before that, "Bali," from 1998, arrived on Friday. It's awesome and amazing. I hear stuff that reminds me of Beach Boys (of course), Beatles, The Who, Curt Boettcher, Flo & Eddie, Flaming Lips, Os Mutantes, and probably more I can't identify.
But for all the references, it's very much it's own thing. I really really love this CD. I'll listen to this one a few hundred times before I'm done with it. (I'm already boring Ron with it....)
Can't wait for their other 2 CDs to arrive.
