Pirates of the Caribbean IV

Disney has announced the deal for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, subtitled On Stranger Tides.
That's kind of amazing, considering that Tim Powers wrote an insanely inventive pirate novel called On Stranger Tides back in 1987. Fans of the book (myself included) have commented for years that the PotC series seems to owe much to Tim's book, in both tone and detail.
Seems like Disney agreed; so they went ahead and BOUGHT Tim's book to adapt as the next Pirates movie.
Having a solidly plotted novel to base the screenplay on might just mean that the movie makes some kind of narrative sense -- unlike the last couple of entries, which looked good, but didn't really have PLOTS as such.
I'm not expecting it to be great -- but I hope it's good fun. At least Tim should get a hefty chunk of change from the Mouse out of the deal.
Time to reread On Stranger Tides. Yay!
