Avatar is much better than I expected. If Cameron would hire someone to polish his dialogue, and maybe help him make the story a trifle more subtle, it would be perfect.

As is, I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

What? Hitting you over the head with the whole Native American thing wasn't subtle enough?
But I agree. Un-cringe-worthy dialogue could have made this good movie great.
If he can find a good dialogue writer, maybe he can go back in a time machine, loan him/her to George Lucus, and save Star Wars Eps. 1-3!

No, the best dialog writer ever born couldn't save Episodes 1-3. They'd need to rip the films apart, jettison about 80% of the plot and start over again.

I'm not sure how you could make Hitler's (sorry, Vader's) childhood and adolescence anything but squicky.
