V for Vendetta

Fucking brilliant. Loved it from start to finish. Go, see and enjoy!

Does anyone know how closely it follows the graphic novel? I think I read it like 20 years ago, but don't remember much beyond the Guy Fawkes mask.

but I was poking through the novel recently, and have taken in anumber of reviews; the book's much more aimed at the Thatcherite regression of the 80s in England, plus Alan Moore was pushing hard his anarchist 'solution' that got watered down in the movie. A good read on Moore and his troubles wiht the movie (he disowned it lock, stock, and barrel) is here at the NYT

The movie is derivative, not faithful- and thats fine, 'cause most of Moore's ideas are too big for even soemthing like the big screen, to my eye. What they did with 'From Hell' and 'Leage of Extraordinary Gentleman' is downright criminal....

LOVED V for Vendetta! I had no idea it was going to be so eye openeing to the suppression of sex, orientation, political and religious views etc... it was one of the most refreshing movies I've seen in a looong time! Natalie Portman was fantastic and Hugo Weaving (agent smith muaha) absolutely floored me with his acting
just my 2 cents ! :)

I understand there are compromises in any adaptation, and some people are gonna react negatively because their favorite bit was not translated in the "right way." I have friends who hated the entire LotR trilogy because it did not inlcude Tom Bombadil, for example.

But taken as a film, I think V for Vendetta was great. It was a different experience from the graphic novel (which I don't remember anyway) and I think it works on just about every level. A friend who saw the movie with me thought it was "cheesy" because of the mask that V wore throughout the film. I thought the mask worked. Different strokes...

You and a number of other people online have raved about the movie. I need to see that as soon as I can. It sounds like such an awesome, thought-provoking movie.

And yes, the graphic novel apprently is vastly different, and I heard that many fans of the novel didn't like the movie, so I guess its better if you've never read the graphic novels, or if you keep an open mind while viewing the movie.

It's been about 10 years since I read the graphic novel. I don't remember much about it, but I do know that I enjoyed it. I was supposed to go see the movie today, but then I came down with a cold. aargh. Maybe next week.
